City, County and State Show Losses In Tax Collection
Further proof of March’s severe weather is indicated in the latest sales tax report released by the Oklahoma Tax commission.
Kay was only one of 75 counties in the state reporting a loss in tax collections for April, reflecting March sales. Only Harper and Pawnee county collections were above the same month of 1959.
In the period Tonkawa collections dropped $787.58, a 10.5 percent decline from the previous year and the greatest in the county. Blackwell collections were down 7.5 percent, Newkirk down 5.5. percent, and Ponca City down 3.2 percent. The county shows a loss of 5.57 percent to a total collection of $90,451.95.
Statewide, Oklahoma decreased $490,626 - 11.04 percent under the previous year.
Counties neighboring Kay all showed even greater tax losses: Grant, 16.72 percent; Noble, 33.23 percent; and Osage, 12.96 percent.
Cityan Receives Minor Injuries in Automobile Crash
A grinding, end over end automobile crash last night resulted in minor injuries for a Tonkawa man who pulled himself from his demolished car.
Warren Reisch, 22, 304 S. Fifth, suffered rib injury when his car left Highway 60 east of Tonkawa and rolled numerous times into a wheat field just east of the Chickaskia river bridge.
Trooper George Moore, who investigated the accident, said Reisch’s car careened off the highway and across a wide bar ditch befoe flipping and finally coming to a stop several yards into a field of wheat.
Six marks in the field were counted where the overturning car struck the ground between the highway and its final resting place on its wheels.
Reisch was taken to Blackwell hospital by a passing motorist.
Easter Club Members Meet with Mrs. Whiting For Year’s Final Session
Easter club members met Thursday afternoon in the home of Mrs. Tressa Whiting for their final meeting of the club year.
Mrs. Howard Cole presented the program on “Family Rituals” and also led the devotions on the subject. “Save me from selfishness”. Roll call was answered with a “Favorite spring flower”.
A family picnic was planned for the last Thursday in August. Mystery prize was won by Mrs. Charles McElmurry, door prize by Mrs. Frank Burns and contest prizes by Mrs. Joe Head and Mrs. McElmurry.
Refreshments were served to Mrs. Dale Jones, a guest, and Mrs. W. R. Barclay, Mrs. Frank Burns, Mrs. Howard Cole, Mrs. Mable Esch, Mrs. Joe Head, Mrs. McElmurry, Mrs. Ralph Rothgeb and Mrs. Whiting.
