Miss Mayes Wins Third First Place
Marilyn Mayes has, for the third consecutive year, been named a first place winner in the state conservation poster contest sponsored by the state Garden clubs.
Miss Mayes is 14, an eighth grade student at Tonkawa high school, and the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Mayes. Her charcoal drawing poster depicted “Flood Damage in Oklahoma”. Her prizes at the local, district and state level totalled $9. Her poster will be entered in national competition.
Also a winner in the state competition was Glenda Veal, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Glen Veal and a fifth grade student at Washington. Glenda’s poster, done in crayon, won third in the 4, 5, and 6 grade division.
Jeanne Bergsten Wins Senior Sociology Award At MacMurray College
Miss Jeanne Bergsten, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. M. L. Bergsten, 1109 North Seventh, won the sociology department book gift for the senior concentrating in sociology who has demonstrated superior scholarship.
It was part of traditional Senior Honors day at MacMurray college, Tuesday, May 24.
A sociology major at MacMurray, she entered final examinations Thursday, which will end MacMurray’s 114th year. Commencement is June 5, with MacMurray President Louis W. Norris scheduled to speak.
Women’s Council Has Wednesday Luncheon in Christian Fellowship Hall
The Women’s Council of the First Christian Church met Wednesday in Fellowship hall for a covered dish luncheon followed by a short business session.
Mrs. Therman Frazier, vice-president, conducted the session. Hostesses were Mrs. Emma Wilkins, Mrs. Chloe High and Mrs. Aura Fuller.
Guests present were Rev. and Mrs. John Bloss, David, Sue and Kay, Mrs. Leslie Lively of Palo Alto, Calif., Mrs. Mable Russell of Wichita, Mrs. Everett Shawver and Mrs. Flora Riley.

Nell Mann Accepts Teaching Post at Cunningham
Nell Mann, a 1960 graduate of Northwestern State college, Alva, will teach music in the Cunningham, Kans. schools next fall, the Northwestern placement office has announced.
