It’s always a tough assignment when you have to go to Morrison.
That’s Buc Head Coach Mike Kirtley’s take on this week’s ball game.
Tonkawa was to play at Morrison 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 25th. But it has been cancelled with several starters quarantined at Tonkawa. The announcement was made a press time Tuesday.
Both teams are 2-1 for the year so far.
Morrison lost the season opener to Oklahoma Christian School 8-40, but has since reeled off two straight wins -- over Kiefer 30-19 and Porter 28-6.
The Bucs have faced three straight class 2A foes -- Newkirk, winning 49-14; Perry, losing 26-39; and Blackwell, winning 15-14.
“Morrison’s Morrison,” Kirtley said while preparing for the match-up this week. “They have great tradition. They always execute well and a solid offensive line.”
The Wildcats will be in a four front defense, but have gone from their traditional wing-T offense to a spread version, Kirtley said.
“This is our last tune-up before starting district play,” Kirtley said, “so we just need to stay healthy and keep getting better.” The Bucs are on the road three weeks in a row -- at Morrison this Friday, to Crescent Oct. 2, to Watonga Oct. 9. On last Friday’s win over Blackwell, Kirtley said he “thought we got a better effort from our big guys. The team was resilient. They kept playing from behind and didn’t panic. We had better focus.”
