At a recent meeting of the Kay County Retired Educators Association, officers for the 2020-2021 membership year were elected. Officers to serve will be Cindy Watson as president, Nancy Niemann as treasurer, Shirley Neal as secretary and Royce Caldron as membership chair. The meeting was held at the L.A. Cann Gardens in Ponca City.
In addition to their business meeting, the program was presented by Ms. Elsie Cann, who was portrayed by Carol Bouldin. Bouldin, dressed in period costume, gave a history of the Cann family and how their home that was built in 1907 eventually became on of Ponca City's treasures. Comprised of about ten acres of land, the gardens include a wisteria arbor, three gazebos, a lily pond, numerous beds of various flowers and plants. The Cann home and gardens were donated to the city of Ponca City in 1975 by Elsie Cann Brown.
