Tonkawa Buc footballers take to the field for the first time this Friday night in a pre-season scrimmage.
The Buc varsity will scrimmage Hominy and OK Union. It gets under way at 6:30 p.m. Head Coach Mike Kirtley said admission will be by donation of a soap and towel.
A total of 29 prospects have been practicing since Aug. 10.
“We had a good hitting day last Friday,” Kirtley said. Friday, Aug. 14, was the first time full pads were allowed.
Tonkawa opens the 2020 season at Newkirk 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 3.
This will be the only pre-season scrimmage of the year.
There are seven seniors, nine juniors, four sophomores and nine freshmen out for football so far.
School was to start Thursday, Aug. 20, so more might show up.
