Glasgow Will Move To Clinton
Russell Glasgow, manager of the Tonkawa chamber of commerce since October 1, 1959, Wednesday announced his resignation to accept a similar post at Clinton.
His resignation was accepted at a special meeting of the board of directors called Wednesday afternoon.
Glasgow was president of the chamber in 1959, resigning to take the managerial position last October upon the resignation of Joe Hochderffer. He moved to Tonkawa in 1938 as manager of Anthony’s store where he served until 1941.
After service in World War II, he opened a grocery business on North Main street, operating it until last year. He served on the city council of Tonkawa in 1947 and 1948, was commander of the local Veterans of Foreign Wars post in the 1957-58 year, and served as commander of the local American Legion post in 1951-52.
He was president of the Kiwanis club in 1958 and is a present member of the Tonkawa board of education. With his term on the board due to extend until April, 1962, Glasgow will submit his resignation at the May 2 meeting.
In accepting Glasgow’s resignation, President Parnell Bolick said the board members expressed regret at his move, but were in sympathy with his desires to move upward in the chamber field.
