City Manager Kirk Henderson announced this week the Main Street sidewalk project is a go.
He told the mayor and city council at its June meeting the contractor awarded the bid by the Oklahoma Department of Transportation has 90 days to notify the city.
The five-foot wide sidewalks will be installed on the West side of Main Street from Grand to the Venture Food Store.
The bid also calls for replacement of drive-way approaches on the west side as needed.
Pool at Blinn Park OK
Henderson said despite water issues at Blinn Park, the swim pool project is a go.
He said he had forwarded engineer’s findings on the Blinn Park pool location and at least one commercial pool builder said the high water table wouldn’t affect the pool for the long term, only during its construction.
The Tonkawa city council voted after the recent sales tax vote to locate a new pool at Blinn Park.
Henderson said he favors locating the new pool at a ball field located on the southeast side next to the walking trails and just west and south of the gazebo and splashpad.
He predicts at the next council meeting or a special meeting, the council will look at designs so the city can move forward with the bidding process.
