Joe King Presents Graduate Recital At Ft. Worth
A. Joseph King, son of Rev. and Mrs. W. R. King of Tonkawa, Friday evening presented his graduate concert recital as partial fulfillment of requirements for the Master of Church Music degree in conducting from the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary at Fort Worth, Texas.
Rev. and Mrs. King and daughter Ruth attended the concert which was held in Cowden hall of the School oF Church Music.
Appearing in the recital was a 20-voice choir, organized, trained and conducted by King for the concert. Selections sung by the choir, made up of Seminary students and King’s wife Sue, were “Song of Fate” by Holderlin and Brahms, and “The Throne of God” by Sowerby.
King is a student of R. Paul Green of the Seminary. He is a graduate of Oklahoma Baptist university, attended Southern Baptist Theological Seminary at Louisville, Ky. for one year; and is in his second year at Southwestern. He will receive his Master’s degree in sacred music on May 13.
While in Fort Worth to attend the recital, the Tonkawa Kings were guests in the home of the Joe Kings and their six-weeks old daughter, Kelly Sue.
Principal Attends Meeting This Week
Joe Hubbell, principal of Tonkawa senior and junior high schools, left today for Chicago where he will attend a meeting of the North Central Association of Secondary schools.
Hubbell, a member of the Committee for Unqualifiedly Recommended, will remain through the close of the session April l.
His committee is charged with the responsibility of reviewing standards of schools in the North Central association to determine if their facilities and curricula are such they may be recommended without qualificaton.
The general theme of the meeting is the “Improvement of School and College Articulation”.
Hamateur Winners Appear on TV Show
The three top winners in the open division of the sixth annual Hamateur Revue were featured Sunday afternoon in a telecast over Channel 5, Oklahoma City.
Bob Walborn, production manager of KOCO, directed the show originating from the Oklahoma City studios.
Appearing on the show were the Modern Choir, first place winner; Bennie T. Rossell, Wichita, second place winner, and Jimmie Bullard, Arkansas City, third place winner.
Appearing briefly on the show were Parnell Bolick and Russell Glasgow, introduced by Bill Roller, master of ceremonies.
