Groundbreaking for the addition to Tonkawa’s Grade School will begin next month, Superintendent Lori Simpson said this week.
The addition will include two classrooms and bathrooms and will be added to the north end of the grade school facility.
Bids were opened this week and awarded by School General Contractor Bryan Hembree, Simpson said.
The addition was made possible by a Sept. 10, 2019 bond issue for $925,000 approved by school patrons by a 235-50 margin. A total of $800,000 was set aside for the grade school addition with another $125,000 set aside for security improvements to the entire school system.
Bids so far total $702,618.02 with none so far for waterproofing and joint sealing, TPO roofing, metal wall panels and flashings, aluminum windows, glass and glazing and plumbing.
Other bids awarded so far include $2,000 to Emily Hodgson for final cleaning, $33,147 to Clarck Contracting for sitework and demo; $57,275 to H&H for concrete, $167,000 to SIV Masonry, LLC for masonry, $23,900 to HK&S Iron for structural and misc. steel fabrication, $20,068 to Arnold Brothers cabinets for wood and plastics, $33,452 to H&H for doors, frames and hardware, $32,997 to Southwest drywall for framing, drywall and ceilings, $10,600 to BC Coatings for painting, $30,448 to Decorative Dimensions for carpets and tile; $750 to H&H for signage; $48,500 to Brandons Comfort Solutions for HVAC; $113,825 for Moyer with alternate one deduct for electric.
There is $90,797.50 set aside for general conditions, $10,383.52 for contingency and $12,174.09 for bonding.
