Mrs. Olmstead to Head Heart Drive
Mrs. Harris Olmstead will head the annual Tonkawa drive for the Heart association, it was announced this week by Gene Morhan, county Heart chairman.
In making the announcement, Morhan said Mrs. Olmstead, widow of the late Harris Olmstead who died suddenly with a heart ailment, would spearhead what had become known as one of the most efficient volunteer organizations in the country.
“Not only has Tonkawa been the highest city in per capita contributions to the heart fund in the state, but it is one of the highest in the entire United States.” Morhan said.
“The name of Tonkawa never fails to come up at organizational meetings of the Heart association,” he added.
Mrs. Olmstead is expected to announce her heart drive program in the next few days.
Area Farmer Has Inside Track for GOP Chairmanship
Harry Bellmon, Noble county farmer of near Billings, and county Republican chairman, has announced that he will be a candidate for state GOP chiarman at the party’s convention Feb. 15 in Oklahoma City.
The 38-year-old Bellmon is considered a favorite for the post now held by John W. Tyler of Bartlesville, who is not seeking reelection but has announced as a candidate for Republican national committeeman. Reuben K. Sparks, Woodward, present committeeman, will not run again.
Bellmon, who was born on the farm on which he lives, said if elected he intends to carry out the program of his predecessor which consists mainly of thorough precinct organization and getting people active in politics.
Tonkawa Social Club Plans Valentine Party
Plans for a Valentine party for Saturday, Feb. 13 at the home of Mrs. George Schatz, Jr. were made when the Tonkawa Social club met Thursday afternoon in the rural home of Mrs. Adrin Carr.
Mrs. L. E. Ailey conducted the meeting when a devotional on Psalms was led by Mrs. Don Behar. The treasurer’s report was read by Mrs. Duward Jones and secretary reports by Mrs. Dwight Deem.
A donation was made to the heart fund, and dime drill was won by Mrs. Ailey.
As a feature of the afternoon, members constructed Valentines which have been sent to the Crippled Children’s hospital. Mrs. Deem’s was judged the most attractive.
Mrs. Schatz won high score and Mrs. Oscar Brown, low, in table games that furnished entertainment.
A Valentine motif was carried out in prizes and refreshments, and all members received Valentine gifts from their mystery friends.
Those attending were Mrs. Ailey, Mrs.
