SEMINOLE, Oklahoma -- The Northern Oklahoma College Mavs and Lady Mavs completed the regular season Thursday
The 9th ranked Mavs (27-3) were 80-68 winners while the Lady Mavs (3-25) lost 84-67.
The Lady Mavs travel to NEO Monday night for the first round of the NJCAA Region 2 Playoffs at 6 p.m. while the Mavs face Seminole at Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee Thursday at 8 p.m.
Mavs 80, Seminole 68
The Mavs were led by freshman Tyrel Morgan with 30 points while Demaree King added 24 in the 80-68 win over the Trojans. added 13 rebounds.
NOC led 45-31 at half but couldn’t shake Seminole who outscored the Mavs 37-35 in the second half.
“It was a very physical game,” said coach Donnie Jackson. “We got off to a slow start at the beginning, we called a timeout and then made a run to tie it. We then extended the lead to 14 at
“The second half was back and forth for a while, they cut the lead to five two different times,” he added. “Demaree (King) made some tough plays down the stretch that helped us seal the game.”
“We play Seminole again in the Region 2 Tournament,” he said. “We will need to be a lot better if we are going to advance. They are different than any other team in our league because they are so big. We can’t play their game.”
Seminole 84, Lady Mavs 67
The Lady Mavs fell to Seminole 84-67 despite 21 points from freshman Cassie Manning.
Caitlyn Bailey, Hannah Maples, and Radina Zhivachka had eight points each.
Bailey and Zhivachka had five rebounds each for NOC.
“We got down early, made a nice run in the second half down to five and then ran out of gas,” said coach Greg Krause. “Cassie (Manning) played her best game of the year — scored 21 points, made a lot of good decisions.”
