Northern Oklahoma College Division of Fine Arts is presenting the Musical Comedy “All Shook Up” Feb. 20-23 at the Kinzer Performing Arts Center at NOC Tonkawa.
Showtimes are 7:30 p.m. Feb. 20-22 and 2 p.m. on Feb.
23.
The comedy is from the book by Joe Dipietro. It is directed by Chad Anderson.
Anderson said in his director’s notes, “All Shook Up opened on Broadway February 20, 2005—exactly 15 years prior to its NOC premiere. Book-writer Joe DiPietro’s original idea was to have Elvis Presley and William Shakespeare sharing the stage as characters. After sifting through Elvis’ over 800 recorded songs, DiPietro and music arranger Stephen Oremus settled on twenty of the King’s top hits, drew inspiration from Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing, Twelfth Night, As You Like It, and A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and what resulted was a charming story about the power of love. Set in a quiet 1955 Middle-American town, All Shook Up is about a leather-jacketed, motorcycle-riding roustabout who arrives unannounced, stirring up trouble with his hip-swiveling rock-and-roll. Beyond its rollicking sense of fun, the story reminds us to look beyond the appearance of our neighbor and let love prevail.”
The story is all new but the hits are all Elvis Presley.
Admission is free but children under 12 years old must be accompanied by an adult.
The show is presented through special arrangement with Musical Theatre International.
