Filmmakers from across the U.S. including Los Angeles, New York and Texas will be traveling to the small town of Tonkawa to screen their films March 6 - 7, 2020 at Wilkin Hall on the Northern Oklahoma College campus.
The Tonkawa Chamber of Commerce is hosting the town’s first annual Tonkawa Film Festival that will screen short films in 5 blocks on March 6th and 7th. Each block will be followed with a Q&A with visiting filmmakers. An awards banquet will finish out the festival where awards will be given in 6 categories (Drama, Comedy, Animation, Documentary, Student and Horror) as well as a Best of Fest award which includes a $500 cash prize.
Other activities will include a special reception at Tonkawa’s new Art Center at noon on Friday March 6th and Saturday March 7th will kick-off with a lunch open to the public which helps raise funds to support the festival sponsored by the Masonic Lodge, followed by a one of kind film festival parade through downtown Tonkawa. The Tonkawa Film Festival is also excited to be hosting a special screening Friday night at 8:30 p.m. of ‘Walking Out’ starring Matt Bomer, Bill Pullman, Josh Wiggins and Lily Gladstone including a Q&A with the writer/director Alex Smith.
Visiting filmmakers will be treated to a welcome dinner at TS Fork sponsored by the First National Bank of Tonkawa, a Location Scouting tour as well as closing night party before they return home.
Tickets for the event can be purchased online or in-person at the Tonkawa Chamber of Commerce. Tickets are $10/day or $15 for both days. Sponsorships are also still available, and can be purchased through the website or in person at the Chamber office at 102 E. Grand Avenue, Tonkawa, OK.
