NOJC Instructors Receive
Awards at Scouters’ Dinner
Three Tonkawans, all members of the faculty of Northern Oklahoma Junior college, were recipients of special awards Thursday evening when the annual appreciation dinner of Kay district, Will
Rogers council of Boy Scouts, met at the NOJC student union.
Clarence Petrowsky was one of two men to be given the Scouter’s Key, an award reserved for Scout unit leaders. The other recipient of this award was Oral DeCamp of Blackwell.
Ralph Herren and Chester Grimm were recipients of the Scouter’s Award, presented to adult leaders other than unit heads and den mothers. Others getting the award were Kenneth Venzke and
Jim Hastings, both of Ponca City.
Harold Torgeson, Ponca City, was installed chairman for the district for 1960 in other dinner activities. Installed as vice-chairmen were Jack Coke, Tonkawa, W. W. Stafford, Blackwell, and Melvin
L. Ford, Ponca City.
The principal speaker for the evening was Ray Sweazey, national director of interracial service of Boy Scouts of America. He disclosed that there are now more than 5 million Scouts sponsored in the United States by 81,000 institutions. More than 1.5 million adults serve Scouting on a volunteer basis, he said.
Also, furnishing part of the program was the fine arts department of NOJC.
Jim Dacus, Blackwell, served as dinner chairman for the event which drew 120 Scouters and wives from over the county.
Blackwell Dropped From THS
Schedule For 1960 Season
For the first time in at least 20 years, Blackwell High school will not appear on the football schedule for Tonkawa, according to the
1960 slate released today by Joe Hubbell, THS principal.
Although a complete record is unavailable, it is believed the
Tonkawa-Blackwell football series began about 1930. The three latest Tonkawa grid victories were in 1937, 1944, and 1946.
Added to the 1960 schedule, replacing Blackwell and filling an open date, are Cherokee and Medford. Both these opponents will come to Tonkawa for the games: Medford on Sept. 30 and Cherokee on Oct. 21.

Mrs. V. L. Thompson Entertains Unity Club
