Hospice of North Central Oklahoma is offering a Loss of a Mate support group on Wednesdays, February 12th through March 18th, noon-1 pm. The group will take place at our office, located at 445 Fairview Avenue, Ponca City. A light lunch will be provided. The support group is open to anyone who has experienced a loss of their husband, wife, or significant other. Pre-registration is greatly appreciated.
This group will look at the specific issues and bereavement needs of people who grieve the death of their husband, wife, or significant other. We will discuss such diverse topics as the process of grief, secondary losses, and when do we know we are getting better. Time will be set aside each session for individuals to share some of the uniqueness of their grief journey. If you have ever wondered, “What do I do now after the loss of my spouse?” this group is for you.
A group like this can be a great place to find support along your grief journey. One can bring to the table specific issues that are unique to his or her experience of loss. One can ask specific questions about bereavement, learn ways to cope with the many struggles that accompany loss, and find companionship for the journey among those who understand.
Shared stories and experiences are part of the healing “magic” which often occurs at groups such as this, so consider coming and, if you want, sharing some of your story. You may be just the person who offers helpful perspective to another group member, while at the same time garnering support and encouragement for your own grief journey.
