January 2020, another new year and another decade to look forward to. As the pages on the calendar tear off, many of us reflect on our lives. Time is precious because we do not live forever.
Those who are young will soon be the older generation and hopefully will continue to preserve history. Thankfully, the early day history of Tonkawa and the area has been documented by caring people.
As a reminder, the Tonkawa Historical Society has established an outstanding museum; turned an eyesore area into a park dedicated to the early day settlers; acquired the historical Santa Fe Depot and turned it into an attractive and usable building for social events and meetings; and placed a monument on the grounds of the former World War II Prisoner of War Camp for generations to come to remember it as a historical site.
Again, thank you to all the people who have worked preserving history of Tonkawa. It has all been done by dedicated volunteers and they deserve to be remembered with gratitude. Also, there are many who have generously donated not only time but gifts of money.
