New Church of Christ Nears
Completion; Cost Is $15,000
A new Church of Christ building on the corner of North avenue and Public street is nearing completion and it is hoped to hold first worship services there during the first week of August. Olin Walcher, chairman of the building committee, said today.
The structure being built at a cost of $15,000, is 90 percent finished. The exterior is completed and has been painted white. Only work on the interior remains. Plans call for installation of seats in time for services in early August.
The new church building will house the congregation that has been building regular Sunday services in Legion hall for about two years.
The church is constructed of Haydite blocks, a kind of pumice stone. The building measures 33 by 70 feet, all on one level. There are no steps. The interior of the auditorium will be painted a light green and class rooms in other pastel shades.
There are two classrooms at both the front and back of the auditorium. The pulpit and bapistry will be finished with white pine.
The main entry to the auditorium is on the northwest, away from the highway.
Windows will have green cast marbiized glass. Sidewalks will be constructed later and there will be parking space on the east side of the church, Walcher said.
Members of the building committee are Walcher, Leonard J.
Norris and Garvin B. Herring.
The church is a mission church under the eldership of the Ponca
City Church of Christ. Tom Marshall is the preacher.
