The Mavs would open up the scoring seven minutes into the game when Sofie Joergensen was brought down into the penalty box with Janet Moreno stepping up and calmly placing the ball into the back of the net.
The goal was Moreno’s 5th of the year. Four minutes later
Skylar Yocham got behind the
NEO defense and ran half the field to score the second goal of the game. Nancy Herr could have added a third when she got on the end of a cross from Skylar Yocham, but NEO’s goalkeeper came up with the save.
The Mavs would go into the first half 2-0 up.
NOC would continue to dominate the game in the second half. Maddie Cochran hit the bar and had two more shots saved in the first ten minutes of the second half. Yocham was a menace up top and had several opportunities to get a second goal but her shots were saved by the goalkeeper.
NEO would score a goal in the second half pouncing on a mix up with the NOC back-line and goalkeeper. In the 86th minute NOC put the game away when Kayla Hooper scored her first of the season, when she picked up a loose ball on the edge of the box and buried it into the opposite corner.
“This was a big game for us and another big three points,” said coach Jade Ovendale. “We had to deal with some adversity in our warm up and the team did not let them affect them and came out really strong. I am proud of how Corayma Torres stepped up for us in that moment.”

The oldest rivalry in Region 2 soccer produced another classic game on a cold day in Miami, Oklahoma. In the end, 110 minutes couldn’t separate the teams in a 1-1 tie.
NEO started strong and controlled the play early in the game, but it was Northern that would get on the scoreboard first. In the 20th minute John Woodhead intercepted a pass and blasted a long shot past the NEO goalkeeper to put the Mavs up 1-0.
