Tonkawa hosts Morrison at 7 p.m. Thursday in a pivotal District
A-5 contest.
Tonkawa, Morrison and Barnsdall are all tied for third in the league at 2-2.
The Bucs are coming off a 42-30 league win at Woodland last
Friday night. The Wildcats escaped Barnsdall 24-22.
“Morrison is nine kinds of trouble,” Buc Head Coach Mike Kirtley said this week while preparing for the match-up.
“They have a solid defense and a wing-T offense,” Kirtley said, “And they have a great front on both sides of the ball. It’s going to be a tall mountain to climb.”
Morrison also has wins over Woodland 30-0 while its two losses -- like Tonkawa -- were to Pawhuska 12-20 and Pawnee 6-20. Non-conference wins came against Crescent 24-10 and Kiefer 22-7.
So what does Tonkawa do to win?
“We can have no mistakes and get some stops,” Kirtley said, “Turnovers will be big, as they always are.”
