Tonkawa’s Bucs, who have lost two District A-5 games in a row, will try to rebound at Woodland this Friday night.
But Head Coach Mike Kirtley warns: “It won’t be easy. Woodland is pretty good, at least good enough.”
Kick off is at 7 p.m. at Fairfax.
The Cougars, 1-5 on the season and 0-3 in the league. The
Bucs are 4-2 and 1-2.
Like most teams the Bucs have faced, Woodland will be in a spread offense and multiple sets defensively.
“They have a dual threat at quarterback, who can run and pass,”
Kirtley said.
Woodland has beaten Sayre 30-0, but lost to Pawnee 14-56,
Morrison 0-30, Ponca City JV 20-39, Pawhuska 0-62 and Crescent 14-37.
The head coach said the Bucs need to “win three of the next four at a minimum to qualify for the playoffs.”
Tonkawa has Woodland, Morrison (here Oct. 17), Barnsdall (here Oct. 25), at Hominy Nov. 8.
Morrison (3-2), Barnsdall (5-1) and Hominy (4-1) all have winning records.
The top four teams in the league qualify for the playoffs. They would match up with District A-6 which currently has second ranked Rejoice Christian in first, followed by Commerce, Colcord and Quapaw.
The top two teams in each district host first round playoff games Nov. 15 while third and fourth place teams go on the road.
