Pawhuska is “awesome.”
That’s how Buc Head Coach Mike Kirtley termed this week’s
Tonkawa opponent.
In what is arguably the biggest regular season game of the season, tenth ranked Tonkawa hosts ninth ranked and unbeaten
Pawhuska at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4.
The match-up is ranked seventh among the top ten games in all classes statewide by The Daily Oklahoman. “Pawhuska’s Bryce
Drumming has the offense rolling, scoring more than 50 points a game. But Tonkawa, the defending Class A state champion is coming off its first loss, looking for redemption,” the state paper said.
The Huskies are “by far the best team we’ve played so far,” Kirtley said, “They look like a souped up version of NOAH. In fact, they make NOAH look like a pee wee team.”
Pawhuska is 5-0 amd 3-0 in the league with wins over Barnsdall 60-12, Morrison 20-12, Woodland 63-0, OK Union 60-18 and Kellyville 57-16.
The Huskies will be in a spread formation offensively and a five front multiple defense.
Tonkawa fell to 4-1 overall and 1-1 in District A-5 following its 6-22 loss at Pawnee Friday night. “Pawnee beat us like a rag doll,” Kirtley said, “They just whipped us all the way around.”
