The Northern Oklahoma College Men’s Soccer Team is ready for the new season that started last Saturday against Garden City.
The Mavs, 10-6-1 in 2018, are under the direction of Michael
DuRoy now in his 23rd season at NOC.
NOC traveled to Southwestern College last weekend for an exhibition providing DuRoy with a baseline for his 2019 team.
“We learned a lot, both good and bad,” DuRoy said. “We did some good things but more importantly, we got exposed and that helps us as we prepare for the season opener on Saturday.”
“From the standpoint of getting on the field and scrimmaging against someone else, it was good,” he said. “With so many young players, it was good to get them all on the field.”
The Mavs have a young squad in 2019 with just seven sophomores and 24 freshman.
“We have a young group but I like a young team,” DuRoy said.
“It gives us an opportunity to teach and work these young players into our system.”
After the home opener on Saturday, the Mavs are on the road for six straight.
“Playing on the road so much early in the season will help us in the long run,” DuRoy said. “Road trips early help a team bond together and experience some challenges that will pay off later.”
“I like this team a lot,” he said. “They are buying into what we are doing and buying into their teammates and the system. We may take some lumps early but by the end of conference, we have a chance to be a really good team.”
