lift-a-thon will follow
Tonkawa’s 2019 Buc football team will scrimmage for the first time this Friday, Aug. 23.
The scrimmage will begin at 6:30 p.m. The Bucs will be going against teams from Perry and Oklahoma Union, both Class 2A ballclubs. JV teams will take the field first.
Following the scrimmage there will be a Lift-A-Thon sponsored by the quarterback club. All proceeds will go towards the new weight room.
Tonkawa Buc football has grown to 27 with the addition of senior Gabe Summers, Head Coach Mike Kirtley announced this week.
Practice started Monday, Aug. 12, with two-a-days at 6:45 a.m. and 6 p.m. until school started Thursday, Aug. 15. Now practice is after school each day. Kirtley said the coaching staff has been pleased with the hitting going on on the field since putting on pads late last week.
This scrimmage is a tune-up for the season opener vs. Blackwell here Friday, Aug. 30. Kick off is at 7 p.m.
Those out for football so far include the following:
Seniors -- Peyton Day, Parker Miller, Joby Jauregui, austin Sharp, Cody Morgan and Gabe Summers.
Juniors -- Tristain Burdick, clay Massey, Kyle Hall, Dalton Harris, Carson robinson and Nathan Anderson.
Sophomores -- Noah Campbell, Brendon Ochoa, Jake Morgan, Jake Randall, Justin Lindley, Kai Day, Dante Mendoza, Miccael Brown, Tuff Crosby and Lucius Holloman.
Freshmen -- Beau Murphy, Jaidyn Guzman, Tyler Looper, Wil Moore and Landon Strong.
The coaching staff remains the same with Mike and Kurt Kirtley, Stony Fath, Kale Dice, Gage and Russell Martin.
The 2019 season begins Friday, Aug. 30, at Buc stadium vs. Blackwell here at 7 p.m.
Tonkawa is defending Class A state champions as well as District A-5 which includes Drumright, Pawnee, Pawhuska, Woodland, Morrison, Barnsdall and Hominy.
Langston-Hughes has dropped out of football this year, so the Scholars will not be in District A-5. It will be an eight team district with Tonkawa.
Replacing L-H on the Buc schedule will be Tulsa NOAH on Friday, Sept. 13. The Bucs will play at their place and will join Blackwell Aug. 30, at Newkirk Sept. 6 as non-district contests. The district schedule will begin on Sept. 20 with Drumright here for Homecoming.
