Frazier Ends Cadet Course
Eugene Frazier, 19, Tonkawa, having successfully completed the initial phase of his aviation cadet training program, has been graduated from the airforce pre-flight school at Lackland Airforce
Base, San Antonio, Tex.
Frazier is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Therman Frazier, rural Tonkawa.
The graduation was marked at a parade and assembly of the
USAF pre-flight school. This organization conducts the introductory course for all students enrolled in both pilot or aircraft observer training.
Having completed the 12-week pre-flight course, Frazier will enter the first flying training phases of the program at bases of the
Flying Training Air force. Many of the pre-flight graduates will receive delays enroute to their new assignments which will enable them to take a brief home leave.
The graduating class included a number of students enrolled as members of South American, European and Asiatic nations as well as United States cadets. They are engaged in the training either under provisions of the Mutual Defense Assistance Program or under agreements presently in force between their home countries and the United States.
Harwell Voted Summer Youth Program Head
Jim Harwell was elected chairman of the summer youth recreation committee at an organizational meeting held Tuesday in the chamber of commerce office. He succeeds Elmer Gillen.
Jim Morgan, Jr. was named vice-chairman and Everett Mugg was elected secretary-treasurer.
The committee, composed of representatives from the chamber of commerece, Jaycees, Lions, Kiwanis, American Legion and
Veterans of Foreign Wars, discussed various phases of recreation to be included in the program this year.
Summer Band Eyed
A summer band program, basketball and volley ball were considered as new additions to the recreation activities.
Andy Evans reported that interest had been expressed in a two-phase summer band program, (1) classes for beginners and intermediates in instrumental music and (2) formation of a summer concert band which meets regularly for practice sessions and holds periodical band concerts.
Harold Waugh reported that equipment and uniforms for the junior baseball program had been purchased by the Jaycees, which look over supervision of the program this year. Possibility of moving lights at the softball field back to provide lighting facilities for night baseball was discussed.
Doenges to Open Campaign At Rally
Tonkawa will welcome its favorite son in the Oklahoma gubernatorial race Tuesday, May 18, when William Conrad Doenges kicks off his campaign at a rally in Maverick Field.
