Thank you, Marilee, for being the historian for Tonkawa, for researching history, stories, people and pictures and it is all in print. McCarter Museum has a roomful of her notebooks of early day history with so much information. She obviously put years of work into this project. How grateful we are for Marilee’s dedication.
Today, this column is dedicated to Marilee Helton. She was a driving force in starting the McCarter Museum as well as Centennial Park. Both projects are an asset to the community. We need to remember the people who make things happen.
‘Musing at the Museum’ was started by Marilee in 2001 and continued until 2013. Before then, she wrote articles under the caption of ‘Pieces of the Past’, starting in January, 2000.
Farewell, my friend.
