A number of Tonkawa and DCLA athletes performed well at the Northern Oklahoma College Girls’ Basketball Camp held June 23-27.
The camp was held for girls in grades 3-6.
In the Grades 3-4, Tonkawa’s Jayla Paul was on the 1st place team in the three-on-three competition. Hadley Ward of DCLA was on the 2nd place team in the three-on-three competition while Emme Randall of Tonkawa was on the 3rd place team.
In Grades 5-6, Tonkawa’s Kamryn Hampton of Tonkawa and Jazmin Dollarhide of DCLA won the three-on-three competition while Derby Darling of DCLA was on the 2nd place team in three on three.
In the Grades 3-4 division of two-on two basketball, Jayla Paul was on the 3rd place team.
In the one-on-one competition for Grades 3-4, Hadley Ward of DCLA placed 3rd. Ward also placed 5th in the Hot Shot Competition and was second in the free throw competition. She also won the Jared Weiberg Hustle Award for Grades 3-4.
In the All-Star Games contested on the final day of camp, Talynn Williams of DCLA and Savanah Conrad of Tonkawa earned Outstanding Player Awards.
Tonkawa players at camp included Kaylianna Ochoa, Hay-lee Ingram, Henley Hembree, Jayla Paul, Ashton Howard, Jazmin Dollarhide, Landree Freeman, Savanah Conrad, Laney Lefthand, Kamryn Hampton, and Zoey Deckman.
DCLA and Pond Creek athletes included Jazmin Dollar-hide, Riley Skaggs, Brinklee Blanton, Hadley Ward, Derby Darling, Kennedy McReynolds (Pond Creek), Elizabeth Stasyszen, and Talynn Williams.
A total of 80 athletes from 20 communities attended the week long camp directed by Greg Krause, head coach for the Northern Lady Mavs.
Campers worked on mass drills, station drills and team transition offense skills, including work on floor balance, filling lanes, court spacing, advancing the ball and shot selection. They also participated in one-on-one, two-on-two and three-on-three drills; hot shot and free throw contests; and league games.
At an awards assembly concluding the camp, Krause presented individual competition first-place trophies, team and individual place ribbons, and Outstanding Player award plaques. Members of first-place league teams each received a T-shirt printed with the team name and year. Each girl received a certificate of participation, an evaluation of her skills from her camp coach, two camp T-shirts and a camp basketball.
