SEMINOLE, Oklahoma – The Northern Oklahoma College Mavericks ended their season with a 3rd place finish in the NJCAA Region 2 Tournament at Seminole on Monday.
NOC (42-21) also finished in 3rd place in the regular season.
NEO 9, Mavs 5
NOC jumped out to an early lead when Kyia Monahwee hit her 18th home run of the year, a two-run home run shot for the Mavs, scoring Aylin Nunez and the Mavs led 2-0.
NEO tied the score at 2-2 in the 3rd inning and then took a 5-2 lead in the 4th.
NOC had runners on the corners in the 3rd but couldn’t capitalize and then cut the lead to 8-5 in the 6th on a home run by catcher Kendall Heisler but it wasn’t enough.
Mavs 14, Western 4
Kyia Monahwee hit a grand slam and had six runs batted in for NOC in a 14-4 run rule win over Western.
Baylee Scrimshire added three hits and scored three runs while Lis McKellip had three hits and two runs scored for the Mavs.
NOC scored in every inning against Western.
Taylor Lane and Jenna Chassie combined for the win allowing one earned run on five hits.
Mavs 5, Carl Albert 3
The NOC Tonkawa Mavs stayed alive in Region 2 Tournament action with a 5-3 win over Carl Albert Sunday night.
The Mavs dropped to the consolation bracket with a 9-3 loss to NEO Sunday afternoon.
NOC built a 3-0 lead and then sealed the win with two runs in the 7th.
Madison Kettler, Liz McKellip, and Rachel Rumsey had two hits each while Kettler and Baylee Scrimshire scored two runs each.
Taylor Lane (21-11) allowed three runs on six hits.
NEO 9, Mavs 3
NEO scored five runs over the first two innings and held off the Mavs 9-3 in the second round of the NCAA Region 2 Tournament.
The Mavs trailed 6-3 when their bats came alive in the 6th when Kendall Heisler doubled and later scored on an error. Emily Poindexter’s single scored Aylin Nunez and Rachel Rumsey’s double scored Poindexter.
Jenna Chassie (19-7) was the starter for the Mavs allowing nine runs on 11 hits.
Mavs 6, Rose 1
Taylor Lane allowed one run on four hits and Madison Kettler had three runs batted in for the Mavs in a 6-1 win over Rose State.
Lane (20-11) struck out four in earning the win.
Rachel Rumsey added two hits for the Mavs.
