Tonkawa Public Schools art students did well in the 10th annual Pioneer Cellular Smokin’ Red Dirt Arts Festival Youth Art Show. The show is held each year in conjunction with the Red Dirt Festival held in Enid Oklahoma.
This year’s show had an open theme and students in grades 3-12 could enter up to five pieces total in the seven categories. Harold T Holden was honorary judge for the event. Those winning first-third place receive a trophy and a cash award for forty dollars, twenty-five dollars, and fifteen dollars respectfully. Fourth and fifth place winners receive ribbons for their efforts. This year there were nine schools districts and the area home school association participating in the competition. The event is sponsored by Pioneer Cellular and Eagle Marketing of Enid.
Tonkawa’s school art program benefits from the show as well. Pioneer Cellular donates 150.00 for every first place, 100.00 for every second place and 75.00 for every third place finish by students THS art received a check this year for over $2000.00 the largest to date. The school has been entering the Enid show all ten years it has been held.
“I am so very proud of all of these students,” commented Dawn Huff, TPS art teacher, “Most are currently enrolled in art classes or have participated in the THS art camp each summer. They work long and hard on their projects and it is wonderful to see them rewarded for their efforts. I would like to recognize Jena Kodesh for her continued support to our school art program and her dedication to the younger artist providing opportunities for art the entire school year.”
