50 years ago, April 22, 1974Lu Ann Clark Is Queen; Sankey Top Rodeo Cowboy Ike Sankey, Rose Hill, Kansas high school, was named the outstanding cowboy Saturday night following the completion of events of the NOC-Jaycee Rodeo at the rodeo grounds. He won the bull riding event and was the only cowboy to qualify in the event. He placed second in saddle bronc riding and third in steer wrestling. He was presented a trophy saddle and silver belt buckle after the rodeo.The award is made to the cowboy or cowgirl who places in at least two events. Last year Mike Esquibel, Dodge City, Kansas high school cowboy won the award. This year he won the saddle bronc event and was second in bareback riding.Miss Lu Ann Clark, 19, NOC freshman, sponsored by the Ag Club was named Rodeo Queen at the Saturday night performance. First runner-up was Harriet Selvy, Rt. 1, Ponca City, a Blackwell High school senior, sponsored by the Blackwell Saddle Club. Second runner-up was Miss Nona James, 17, a Marland High school junior, sponsored by the Marland Round-Up Club. Robin Sargent, 12, Newkirk was named Mini-Queen at an earlier performance.Miss Clark was presented a dozen red roses, a trophy and a belt buckle midway through the final performance. The three finalists were judged on their horsemanship ability before the winner was announced. The presentation was made by Orville McKinney, queen contest chairman for the Jaycees and Miss Robbie Willerton, Tonkawa, 1972 rodeo queen.The Blackwell Saddle Club won the first place trophy in competition among saddle clubs which participated in the Saturday afternoon rodeo parade. The Newkirk Range Riders were awarded the second place trophy and the Ponca City Trail Blazers won the third place trophy. The parade Saturday afternoon was conducted but a heavy rain shower dampened the participation in the event.New Officers of the Tonkawa Lions Club New officers of the Tonkawa Lions Club, elected Thursday, for the 1974-75 year are Calvin Crumrine, third vice-president; Hal Hunt, secretary-treasurer; Rev.
