In the Bible, in Psalm 71 are the words,”In Thee, O Lord, do I take refuge. Be a Rock of Refuge for me.” Reminds us of the old hymn, “Rock of Ages, cleft for me, let me hide myself in Thee.” In the New Testament, in Luke’s Gospel, is the Parable of a man who built his house upon a Rock, and when a flood arose, “the river burst against that house but could not shake it, because it had been founded upon the Rock.”
Another old hymn says, “In times like these you need a Savior,
In times like these you need an anchor; be very sure your anchor holds and grips the solid rock! This Rock is Jesus, Yes, He’s the
One, This Rock is Jesus, the only One! Be very sure, be very sure your anchor holds and grips the Solid Rock, (by Ruth Caye Jones).
This scripture and this Hymn proclaim Christ Jesus is our solid
Rock. He is our Mighty Fortress,” “A bulwark never failing. He is the One who “when the storms of life are raging, will stand by you and me. “In every high and stormy gale our anchor holds within the vale,” “His oath, His covenant, His blood support you and me in the whelming flood. Yes! On Christ the solid Rock we stand, all other is sinking sand.
What is your life founded on? The old devil says, “Come on, trust in me. I’ll give you all you could ever desire.” Remember how he tried to tempt Jesus? He said, “To you I will give all the kingdoms of the world and their glory.” As if he could deliver the goods. Jesus knew he was a liar, a tempter, a cheat. Jesus replied,
“Worship you? No way.” It is written, “Worship the Lord God, and serve only Him.” Get outa here. He knew that the world was “sinking sand” and only standing with a Rock-like faith in God would avail when Satan turns up the heat, which he continued to try to do on Jesus. He thought he had won when Jesus was crucified, but his defeat was certain when “up from the grave (Jesus) arose,” with a mighty triumph for Himself and for all who will follow Him, including you and me. Are you building on shifting sand” or on
Christ, the “solid Rock.”
