A new fourth grade teacher was hired at the monthly meeting of the Tonkawa Board of Education.
The board met aug. 12 with Case McAninch, Jerry Hook, Mary Allan and Nancy Apple-man present. Cara Beth Johnson was absent.
Bethany Farmer has been hired to teach fourth grade at Tonkawa Elementary School.
In Superintendent Lori Simpson’s report to the board, she said the carryover to this year’s budget was over $1.4 million.
In other action, board members:
-- Approved encumbrances totalling $5,027,773.31 with $76,096.40 from the general fund, $4,414,196.91 for payroll, $1,680 from the building fund, $530,000 from bond fund 31 and $5,800 from bond fund

-- Approved core academic mathematics and science courses offered at Pioneer technology Center to include Algebra II, Geometry, Algebra of Finance, Pre-Calculus, Core Mathematics, Biology II and Anatomy and Physiology.
-- Approved the renewal of the Qualified zone Academy Bond lease for fiscal year ending june 30, 2020 as required under the provisions of the equipment lease purchase agreement dated feb. 28, 2014, between the district and Zions First National Bank.
-- Approved cash fund estimate of needs and request appropriation for $530,000 for building bond fund 31.
-- Approved a contract with Communications Innovations, LLC for speech and language services for the new school year.
-- Approved contract with United Systems for managed technology services for the new school year.
-- Approved the alternative education cooperation program between Tonkawa and Blackwell schools for the new school year.
-- Approved the contract with the Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology Education.
-- Approved a memo of understanding beween Tonkawa schools and SHARE program at Pioneer Technology Center for the new school year.
-- Approved an agreement between Tonkawa Schools and Precision testing Laboratories for the new school year.
-- Approved a contract between Keystone Food Service and Tonkawa Schools for the new year.
-- Approved a Memorandum of understanding between the Ponca Tribe Head Start and Tonkawa Schools for the new school year.
-- Approved a memorandum of understanding between the Otoe-Missouri tribe head start and Tonkawa Schools for the new school year.
-- Approved Tonkawa Public schools fundraisers for the new school year.
-- Approved a resolution allowing mutual transportation across district borders with DCLA.
