High School Homecoming is an important event for Tonkawa. Former students look forward to coming back to Tonkawa and reuniting with their classmates and friends and have a time of remembering high school days.
The Tonkawa High School Alumni Association is a very active organization, beginning in 1990, scholarships have been awarded to deserving Tonkawa High School seniors. In 2006, the Distinguished Alumni Recognition Award was started honoring Lavern Laws. Since then, there have been 26 former students honored. Lavern Laws, with the help of Joe Brining, created the showcases in honor of the outstanding Tonkawa High School Athletes. In honor of Tonkawa veterans of all wars, a committee chaired by Mike Schatz, Donnie Noles, Joe Brining, Bruce Robinson, Ginger Hunter and Kelly Conaghan, showcased the pictures of the veterans along with memorabilia displays at the Tonkawa High School Event Center.
David Fruits is the current president of the Tonkawa High School Alumni Association. He has been a driving force for the organization for many years. Outgoing president, Melinda Glasgow, worked tirelessly during her years of service. Thank you, Melinda. We look forward to Homecoming next week on September 20th. There will be many activities including student assembly, alumni meeting, parade, and the football game with the Queen Coronation at half-time. Also, there will be several class reunions.
McCarter Museum will be open on homecoming day and hopefully will be visited by the guests from out of town. Just a reminder, there is an extensive display of Tonkawa High School memorabilia in the museum.
