Members of the Tonkawa city council recently approved a proclamation honoring city employee Jose Martinez. MartinezWhereas, Jose Martinez is a long-time resident of Tonkawa, living in Tonkawa since enrolling in the fifth grade at Tonkawa Elementary in 2002 and graduating from Tonkawa High School in 2010, andWhereas, Jose Martinez during his high school years participated in wrestling, football, track, and cross country, and developed his love of fitness and sporting competition, andWhereas, Jose Martinez became a valued employee of the City of Tonkawa in February 24, 2015, andWhereas, Jose A. Martinez began successfully competing in mixed Martial Arts matches in 2013, andWhereas, Jose Martinez employed his athletic skills to impart the values of physical fitness, exercise, and competition to Tonkawa youth and residents as an athletic coach and mentor at Small Town Scrappers in 2016, andWhereas, Jose Martinez moved and expanded Small Town Scrappers into its new downtown Tonkawa location in 2019, andWhereas, Jose “Lil Juggernaut” Martinez has an MMA Amateur record of 10 wins, 3 losses and a Professional MMA record of 12 wins, 6 losses, and is currently the #1 Oklahoma, #5 US Southwest, and #52 National Pro Lightweight MMA Fighter, andWhereas, Jose “Lil Juggernaut” Martinez brings to the Tonkawa Community a spirit of sportsmanship, courage, heart, and civic pride that has brought National Television and Sports recognition to Tonkawa;Now Therefore, I, Kenneth Smith, Mayor of the City of Tonkawa do hereby recognize and honor Jose A.
