Native Tonkawan Jim Langdon and his wife, Juley Roffers, were among six inductees into the Tulsa Hall Of Fame last week.
The Hall Of Fame inductions dinner is the Tulsa Historical Society and Museum’s signature annual event. Since 1987, there have been 202 Tulsans named to the prestigious Hall Of Fame, including civic and business leaders, philanthropists, educators, artists and community volunteers. Langdon is the son of the late Gloria and Francis Langdon, longtime publishers of The Tonkawa News.
Juley and Jim moved to Tulsa in 1986 where Juley engaged in the practice of oil and gas law while Jim developed the idea of creating a publishing company which was launched in November of 1986 with the first issue of TulsaPeople Magazine. Juley joined the family-owned company in 1996. Today, Langdon Publishing also publishes The Tulsa Voice, Intermission, VisionTulsa, the Tulsa Guest Guide, Ovations! magazine, and custom publications.
Over the past 20 years, TulsaPeople has earned 192 awards for journalism excellence, including three national awards. The Tulsa Voice and Intermission, the magazine of the Tulsa Performing Arts Center, are also award-winning publications.
Following in his father’s footsteps, Jim was inducted into the
Oklahoma Journalism Hall of Fame in 2006. He is also the recipient of the Distinguished Alumni Award from Tonkawa High
School, is a Distinguished Alumnus of Northern Oklahoma College, and a Distinguished Graduate of the University of Oklahoma College of Journalism.
Juley and Jim have served on many non-profit boards and committees in Tulsa, and have co-chaired multiple fundraising events.
Juley’s idea in 2007, “Cooking For A Cause,” is now the signature annual fundraiser for Iron Gate, the honored street feeding program in Tulsa. “Cooking For A Cause” has raised over $1-million for Iron Gate. Jim is a recipient of Leadership Tulsa’s Paragon
Award.
TulsaPeople has received the prestigious Pillar Award presented by the Tulsa chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals, an award presented only in the years the organization believes an individual or company has earned the honor.
“Juley and I recognize the role of TulsaPeople in our Hall Of
Fame selection,” Langdon said. “Over the past 34 years, the magazine has reflected the importance of doing and supporting things that make Tulsa a better place for all, and spotlights Tulsa people whose varying leadership and work make a positive difference in our community.”
