Tonkawa city council members have begun their search for a new city manager.The council met in special seassion last Tuesday after long-time City Manager Kirk Henderson resigned after nearly a decarde of holding the office.To replace him won’t be easy.Here’s what the city council is looking for:POSITION: City Manager The successful candidate will be a proven leader with strong ethical standards. It is essential that the City Manager candidate have excellent interpersonal and communication skills that enable an effective and ongoing dialogue with Council Members, City Staff, other jurisdictions and organizations, and all segments of the public. The successful candidate will have excellent budgeting and financial skills and a belief that employee morale is an essential factor in achieving high productivity and workforce stability.The City Manager candidate will have the ability to inspire and motivate staff to achieve professional and effective performance in all areas of service delivery to citizens. The City Manager candidate should have the skills and commitment necessary to manage a program that evaluates, preserves, and expands the City’s infrastructure. A proactive leader with the experience to identify future needs and obstacles, maintain and utilize appropriate planning tools, and guide successful decisions both short term and long term, is highly desired.The City Manager candidate will have a solid understanding of a progressive municipal government operation and a documented record of accomplishments in all key areas of municipal operations. The prospective City Manager candidate will be trustworthy, honest, fair, and socially perceptive, be a good negotiator and have the ability to analyze, reason, and uphold the vision of the City council and work with them to accomplish set goals and standards.Education: Specialized knowledge in a municipal department head; able to direct personnel; may have a bachelor higher degree or an offsetting amount of experience in management and especially city management.Experience: Requires at least 5 years of responsible city management experience or equivalent.The City of Tonkawa offers a competitive starting salary, depending on qualifications and experience.
