New Addition Proposed Here
A meeting has been called for 7:30 p.m. tonight for all persons interested in a new housing addition in Tonkawa. Hollis McGinness, secretary-manager of the chamber of commerce, said today.
The meeting will be held in the Tonkawa high school auditorium and is sponsored by the American Legion post.
The Souligny Agency of Ponca City will have several representatives present at the meeting to explain the entire operation, including costs, location, house plans and payments.
The proposed building project is not restricted to veterans, McGinness said. Houses may be constructed in accordance with current Federal Housing Administration rulings, although there must be a small number of houses built under the G. I. bill.
“I am sure you are aware of the acute housing shortage in Tonkawa,” McGinness said in a letter to prospective homeowners, “and you will be interested in the meeting. It is our opinion that when the turnpike construction is started, our need for housing will become more acute than the existing condition.”
Scholarship Fund Boosted
Six Tonkawa firms and individuals and one organization have contributed to the loan and scholarship fund at Northern Oklahoma Junior college, President V. R. Easterling said today.
Latest additions to the scholarship funds have been a $60 scholarship offered for the next school year at NOJC by Harry Harville, a $30 scholarship offered next fall by Hollis McGinness and a $30 scholarship offered next fall by Harwell Modern Furniture for the valedictorian of Billings high school.
Previous scholarships were offered by Don Roller, Gene Mills and Andy Evans.
The Business and Professional Women’s club last week voted $60 to be set up as an annual loan to help a deserving NOJC student through school.
