Area Chairmen Are Named for Drive
Eight area chairmen for the annual Heart Sunday campaign of the Heart association were announced this week by Mrs. A. J. Casford, city Heart Sunday chairman.
They are: Mrs. Ray Hamilton, Mrs. Howard Harold, Mrs. Howard Legg, Mrs. A. D. Buck, Mrs. Dewey Bittle, Mrs. Lee Thompson, Mrs. Hugh Mattox, and Mrs. E. C. Spencer.
Mrs. Casford, announcing the appointments, pointed out that Tonkawa has been divided into eight campaign areas, geographically.
“We feel fortunate,” she said, “to have such outstanding leadership in this door-to-door campaign February 26th, since the success of the Heart Sunday campaign depends on the efforts of each of them.”
Perry Nips Bucs In Dist. Tourney
The Perry Maroons downed Tonkawa High 48-45 in the first round of district tournament play in Perry Thursday night to win the rubber game between the two schools this season.
Tonkawa’s Mark Bolick took game scoring honors with 15 points with runner up honors going to Perry’s Coffman who tallied 13.
Perry continued to win the district title with a victory over Pawnee in the finals.
Scoring: Tonkawa – Bolick 15, O’Mealey 4, Williams 4, Bray 6, Vassar 1, Mayes 3, Prelesnick 12; Perry – Garrison 11, Coffman 13, Wakeman 9, Craft 3, Wilde 8, Feken 4.
Public Is Invited to Attend Annual Troop Inspection Thursday Evening
A visit Thursday evening by an inspector of the Fourth Army area will replace the usual open house event, annually staged by the Tonkawa National Guard unit on the anniversary of George Washington’s birthday.
Tonkawa residents are invited to attend the public troop inspection at the armory between the hours 7:30-8:30 p.m., however.
In preparation for the annual I. G. inspection, the local unit held an all-day drill Sunday and will follow with another on February 26. At the drill on February 26, units will attend Tonkawa churches then will split into recruiting teams to call at homes of prospective members.
According to a list of local Guardsmen released today by Jerry Weeks, first sergeant, 69 local and area men are presently in Battery A, 189th Field artillery. The Guard payroll currently amounts to approximately $39,000 annually.
Captain Marshall L. Bathurst is commanding officer of the Tonkawa unit. Other officers of the battery are 1st. Lt. Lonnie M. Bray and 2nd Lt. Larry C. Lacy. Weeks is battery first sergeant.
