Bowdlear Accepts Elevator Position
Bill Bowdlear, bookkeeper for Farmers Cooperative association, today announced his resignation to accept a position in Kildare.
Effective February 20, Bowdlear will become manager of a Kildare elevator, owned by the Newkirk Co-operative and Supply association. Facilities include a 250,000 bushel elevator, a gasoline bulk plant and feed and fertilizer sales.
Mr. and Mrs. Bowdlear and daughters, Jo Ann and Mary Lou, will move to Newkirk shortly after the school year ends in May. They make their home here at 303 N. Eleventh.
King and Queen of Smile Are Chosen Here
Ralph Herren and Frances Sue Weingartner, 8th graders in Tonkawa junior high school, have been selected King and Queen of Smile and will represent their school in the district finals to be held in Enid January 21.
Tonkawa’s King and Queen were selected by Dr. Robert Carter and Dr. A. J. Casford, co-chairmen of the local contest held Thursday, Jan. 12.
They were chosen from among finalist Ann Scott, Sharon Rupe, Gloria Fehrenbach, Kenny Coates, Bobby Colombe and Lynn Morgan. Winners of the district competition, sponsored by the Oklahoma Dental association, will compete in the state finals to be held in Oklahoma City February 11.
Finalists in the local contest were selected on the basis of arrangement and color of teeth, general oral hygiene, occlusion, etc. Selection of the winners was made by Dr. Casford, Dr. Carter, Mrs. Glen Kreger, Mrs. Glen Strange, Mrs. Bill Bowdlear, Mrs. Dennis Impson and A. J. Evans, using the smile as the only basis of judging.
Dr. Carter said judging at the district and state levels would also be on smiles only.
Tonkawa winners in the contest were presented a plaque Friday at the school. State winners will be presented with $250 scholarships.
Mrs. Buck Leaves for Forum On Nat’l Security
Mrs. A. D. Buck will leave Sunday, Jan. 22 for Washington D. C. where she will attend the Women’s Forum on National Security and a national executive committee meeting of the American Legion Auxiliary.
Mrs. Buck will attend the forum as an Oklahoma delegate in conjunction with her position as American Legion Auxiliary national security chairman and the executive committee woman and chairman of the Auxiliary’s national constitution and by-laws committee.
She will appear on the program during the opening session and will lead the preamble to the constitution of the American Legion auxiliary.
Purpose of the forum, which is attended by representatives of some 15 major organizations,
