Christians Call New Minister
The appointment of John E. Bloss of Yukon, Okla. to the pastorate of the First Christian church was announced today by Ernest G. See, chairman of a special pulpit committee of the church.
Rev. Bloss 34, pastor of the Yukon church for the past 4 1/2 years, will assume his duties here May 1. The Yukon church was their third pastorate since he was ordained. He succeeds Rev. Charles Livingston who accepted a pastorate in Scottsbluff, Nebr. Feb. 1.
This minister received an AB degree from Phillips university in Enid in 1947 and the BD degree in practical theology from Phillips in 1950.
Parish Retreat Is Slated At St. Joseph’s
A five-day parish retreat is scheduled for next week at St. Joseph’s Catholic church here, according to Father Elmer Robnett, pastor. Nightly sessions will begin at 7 p.m. conducted by Father William B. Faherty, St. Louis.
Each of the evening services will have two conferences with a period of mediation and will last for approximately two hours.
Topics announced by Father Faherty are: Monday, Why there are failures in ife; Tuesday, The Greatest Failure; Wednesday, God is Merciful; Thursday, The Personality of Christ; and Friday, Christ’s Cross and You.
School Head Talks at Kiwanis Club Meet
A. J. Evans, superintendent of schools, spoke on his recent trip to the convention in Atlantic City of the American Association of School Administrators at the Kiwanis club meeting held Wednesday at the NOJC student union.
The superintendent touched briefly on comments made by four of the convention’s principal speakers, Ezra Taft Benson, secretary of agriculture, Nelson Rockefeller, governor of New York, Eric Johnson of Motion Pictures, and George Rommey, president of American Motors corporation.
In a report given by Rudy Walleen, chairman of the support of churches committee, it was revealed that in the club, 28 members had attended church and Sunday school during February, six members were Sunday school teachers, nine were youth group leaders, and 19 were officers in local churches.
Twentieth Century Club in Home of Mrs. Dowler
Mrs. Clarence Helton, vice-president, conducted the Tuesday evening meeting of the Twentieth Century Reserch club held in the home of Mrs. Bill Dowler, rural Tonkawa.
Bill Roller was guest speaker for the session, and spoke on behalf of the Tonkawa Chamber of Commerce of which he is public relations chairman. Roller spoke of the advantages of living in Tonkawa and urged citizens to act as good public ...
