Methodist Women Will Continue Study Of IndiaThe in-depth study of India being conducted by the United Methodist Women, under the direction of Mrs. George Needham will continue with the showing of the film “The Cross In the Lotus” at a 2 p.m. meeting Oct. 20 in the church parlor. All women of the church are invited to attend.The series of studies was introduced with a puppet show “Showers of Blessing” at the morning worship service Oct. 3 and has been the emphasis at the Oct. 11 and Oct. 12 joint circle meetings.Maps of India pictures brass articles, bells, tapestry cloths, oriental rugs and incense burner and other native objects have formed a background for the sessions. Correlative worship settings have been used.Mrs. Needham presided at the Oct. 11 meeting which opened with a devotional period in which the nine Methodist missionaries whose birthdays fall in October were remembered.Important dates in India’s history were placed on a “time line” which extended around the room and recorded historical facts were played preceding the presentation of a skit “Confronted – Is This Justice?” Mrs. John Kuchera read the prologue and parts were played by Mrs. A. R. Smith, Mrs. M. L. Bergsten and Mrs. Chuck Davis. A panel composed of Mrs. A. J. McDaniel, Mrs. Grace Lucas, Mrs. Homer Vandagriff, Mrs. R. C. Birch and Mrs. B. D. Fairchild discussed “The Green Revolution.” Mrs. G. W. Scoles told of the “art of India” and illustrated her discussion with pictures collected by Mrs. L. A. Davis, Blackwell, a missionary to India for 15 years. Mrs. Ellis Davis displayed her Indian bell collection and briefly outlined their significance. A puppet show “Too Many Mouths To Feed” was staged by Mrs. McDaniel and Mrs. Fairchild and Miss Dorothy Long gave a resume of the book “Look To The Hills.”Upsets Throw Pickers In Weekly FB ContestThe upsets were hard to pick last weekend as favorites Oklahoma, Notre Dame and Stanford all got dumped. Two persons missed but three games to take the top prize money.First place winner of $7.50 cash is Brad Smith, Box 492. He barely edged Jerry Ailey, Box 153, who also missed three games but did not do quite as well on the tie-breaker. He picked Crescent to win 28-13 and the actual score was 30-14.
