50 years ago, July 20, 197236 Tonkawans Leave Today For Falls Creek AssemblyA group from the First Baptist Church left today to attend the Sixth annual session of Falls Creek Baptist Assembly.The Tonkawa group will be a part of what is undisputed as the world’s largest Christian camp, located in the Arbuckle Mountains near Davis. Over 30,000 persons, mostly teenagers, are expected to attend one of four six-day encampments.Since last year assembles, an additional 6,000 sq. ft. has been added to the open-air tabernacle which will now seat approximately 6,500.Morning and evening preaching services will be conducted by Dr. Franklin Paschall, pastor, First Baptist Church, Nashville, Tennessee.Directing the 500-voice Falls Creek choir, which is made up of campers and sponsors will be Bob Burroughs, assistant professor of music, Samford University, Birmingham, Alabama.The book “Marks of Maturity” will be taught to all campers at early morning services at 7:40 a.m., led by Reverend Keith Wiginton, pastor, First Baptist Church, Altus.Gene Bartlett, church music secretary for the Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma, will lead the congregational singing for the 19th consecutive year.Planning to attend from the First Baptist Church are Reverend and Mrs. Roy D. Moody, Jr., sponsors, and Mrs. Dollie Pfluger and Mrs. Margaret Cathey, camp cooks. Young people attending the camp are: Debbie Ailey, Tina Green, Beverly Cathey, Sharon Oxford, Linda Baker, Dora Byers, Rita Bickell, Richard Gorman, Vicki Dickson, LaDonna Ailey, Denise Pedigo, Debbie Smith, Judy Smith, Mededith McSparren, Marion Williamson, Larry Case, Dana Lyall, Pam Howeth, Jerry Ailey, Dennis Ailey, Jeff Tull, Mary Jane McKee, Diana Posey, Pete Williamson, Jet Williamson, Shirley Magner, Elizabeth Suter and Laurie Weeks.Going with the group, but attending Girls Auxiliary camp Nanny-Cha-Ha located near Falls Creek are Janay and Lisa Moody, Julie Coulter and Susan Pearman. All of the campers will return next Saturday afternoon, probably around 6:30 o’clock.Hall of Fame Will Induct George McCoyGeorge McCoy, whose coaching career has spanned 25 years, will be inducted into the Oklahoma Coaches’ Association Hall of Fame at its annual banquet to be held August 7, 1072 at the Camelot Motor Inn Motel, Tulsa, Oklahoma.While serving his profession, McCoy has coached in schools at Fairland, Hartshorne, Checotah, Nowata, Miami, Bristow, Sayre, Newkirk, and Northern Oklahoma Junior college.His coaching record was 145 wins, 87 losses, and 8 ties. His teams won district championships four times.Coach McCoy is now chairman of the Social Studies Department at Northern Oklahoma ...
