50 years ago, July 13, 1972Rep. Conaghan Announces For Sixth House TermRepresentative Brian P. Conaghan has filed to seek a sixth term in the Oklahoma House of Representatives from Kay and Grant County’s District 38. Under the new redistricting plan, House seat No. 38 will include most of Kay County, except Ponca City, and about half of Grant County. Towns in the new district include Salt Fork, Deer Creek, Pond Creek, Medford, Lamont, Renfrow, Clyde, Peckham, Braman, Chilocco, Nardin , Kildare, Newkirk, Blackwell, and Tonkawa.Conaghan. 45, first entered the Legislature in 1963. Since that time he has served two Sessions as the Caucus Chairman for the Republican House Members. From 1963 through 1969 Conaghan had perfect attendance at the legislative sessions, and was absent only one day of the 1972 session.He has served seven sessions on the Common Education and six sessions on the Higher Education Committees. Other committee assignments have been: Industrial Development, Public Health, Oil and Gas, Research and Investigation, Professional and Occupational Regulation, Insurance, Public Safety and Penal Affairs. Revenue and Taxation, Constitutional Revision and Regulatory Services, Public Affairs, and Veterans and Military Affairs.Conaghan has been a life long Kay county resident. He and his wife Dorothy, and their three sons, Joe Lee, Charles, and Roger, live at 904 East Grand. He owns and operates a welding shop which is also located here. Conaghan graduated from Tonkawa High School in 1944, Northern Oklahoma Jr. College in 1948 and from the University of Oklahoma in 1961 with a B.A. degree. He served in the U. S. Army 38 months during which time he attended Japanese Language School and Counter Intelligence School and was stationed in Korea. Conaghan is a member of the First United Baptist Church, the Chamber of Commerce and the American Legion.
