50 years ago, June 15, 1972Five Tonkawans Are NamedTo OU Spring Honor RollA total of 5,789 students at the University of Oklahoma made the honor roll for the 1971-72 spring semester, Dr. Paul F. Sharp, OU president has announced.Of the total, 842 students had straight A (4.0) averages.To be eligible for the honor roll, a student must have an overall grade average of B (3.0) or better in a minimum of 12 credit hours and must not have a “failing” or “unsatisfactory” mark in any course.Included on the honor roll from Tonkawa are: Debra Kay Barns, Joan Patricia Howeth, Larry Lee Mayes, John Stephen McCarter and Frederick W. Sills.Seven Tonkawans Named To OSU Honor RollSeven Tonkawa students at Oklahoma State University the past semester were among 5,104 named to the Dean’s Honor Roll for the spring term. Listing on the honor roll is earned by students making a 3.0 grade average or better while taking at least 12 credit hours, with no grade lower than C.The list includes Carol Birch Tharp, Jacqie Louise Marsh, Madelyn McSparrin Mittelstet, Kenneth R. Meyers, Michael Lynn Morgan, Ronald E. Reynolds, Ronald Ray Walcher. Lamont students named were Bonnie Sue Aldrich, Larry James Allen, John Duane Crider, Cheryl Ann Gautier, Allen Duane Hobbs, Cathy Helene Mitchell, Lyndal Frank Skaggs, Lyndal Luke Whitworth. Shimanek, Margaret Jo Shimanek, Deborah Sue Thralls, Michael Thralls, Paul Edward Wright.Dr. Eric Beevers Is New Priest At St. Joseph’sA new priest, Very Rev. Eric Beevers, Ph.D. has been assigned St. Joseph’s Catholic church and has assumed his duties here this week. Born in Edinburgh, Scotland of English parents he worked in the stock exchange for four years before entering the priesthood. He received his Ph.D. from Gregorian University in Rome and was ordained in 1937.No newcomer to Oklahoma, Dr. Beevers has served in many capacities in the Diocese since he came here in 1936.
