3 Teachers Are Hired:Contract Okayed By BoardAt a special meeting of the board of education Friday morning at Tonkawa Grill, three new teachers were hired for the fall term of school; the contract with St. Joseph’s church for use of the kindergarten building was approved; and the policy for issuing complimentary passes was reviewed and approved as it presently stands. Teachers hired were Mrs. Annette Herren, a Tonkawa High school graduate and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Olin Walcher, 1105 North Fifth who will be Junior-Senior High librarian and teach English; James Taylor, 200 North Cherry, who will teach the sixth grade at Lincoln school and will be principal of the school; and Mrs. Brenda Tautfest Nida, a Marland High school graduate who will teach in an elementary school.Paula Humphries Is Representative At Girls StatePaula Humphries of Tonkawa was elected to the office of State Representative Tuesday night at Oklahoma Girls State, held May 27-June 3 at East Central State College in Ada.An eight-day program in citizenship and government, Girls State is sponsored and conducted by the American Legion Auxiliary. The 416 girls, representing over 200 Oklahoma high schools, have been assigned to sixteen mythical cities and divided into the Boomer Sooner political parties.Classes in all phases of government from the precinct level to the state level are conducted by members of the East Central State College faculty and by various government officials.Paul Walker Installed Commander Of V.F.W.Paul Walker was installed as Commander of V.F.W. Post 1229 when installation ceremonies were held Thursday night at the V.F.W.
