50 years ago, May 11, 1972Kiwanis Honor Student Banquet Tuesday NightMembers of the State and National Honor societies of the Tonkawa High school will be honored by the Kiwanis club Tuesday night at the 13th annual Honor Student Banquet at Perkins restaurant.Dr. Edwin E. Vineyard, president of the Northern Oklahoma college will be the banquet speaker. The Rev. W. R. King will give the invocation and Charles Shultz will introduce the guests.Parents of the honor students may attend the dinner but purchase their own dinner tickets. Following Dr. Vineyard’s address, Jim Mihura, Tonkawa high school principal will give some remarks and then Mrs. Marguerite Curl will introduce the honor students and present certificates.Mrs. Curl is sponsor of the National Honor Society, whom members are: Cindy Allen, Tony Fath, Danny Fuhr, Dicky Fuhr, Sylvia Gorman, DeAnne Grimm, Beth Humphries, Paula Humphries, Joyce Jared, Jay Jeffries, Sherry Jeffries, Nancy Knight, Reta Martin, Jim McIntyre, Daryl Scheirman, Jeanne Steichen and Louis Vineyard.Members of the State Honor Society are: Cindy Allen, Jim Appleman, Tony Fath, Dicky Fuhr, Janice Griffith, Deanne Grimm, Richard Gorman, Beth Humphries, Joyce Jared, Nancy Knight, Susanne Knoke, Reta Martin, Rhonda Noonan, Pam Thomas Reisch, Jeannie Richards, Vicky Shaull, Jeanne Steichen, Louis Vineyard, Gary Walcher, Cathy Watson, Ronnie White and Oren Zehner.The dinner will start at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.Steps Taken To Accredit NOC Medical ProgramInitial steps toward national accreditation of Northern Oklahoma College’s medical assistant program were made in a meeting of the Oklahoma Association of Medical Assistants, April 30 at Lawton.Tom Harned, director of health occupations at NOC, attended the meeting and reported that in addition to serving as a liaison with the national accrediting service, the OAMA will support Northern’s program with student scholarships.Harned said the meeting came about through the all-out efforts of the Key-Noble County Association. Harned said he was very pleased with the cooperative attitude of the OAMA.Pvt. Alan Howeth Completes Basic Army TrainingArmy Private Alan O. Howeth, 23, son of Mr. and Mrs. Orbra P. Howeth, 409 N. Main, recently completed eight weeks of basic training at Ft. Jackson, S. C.He received instruction in drill and ceremonies, weapons, map reading, combat tactics, military courtesy, military justice, first aid, and Army history and traditions.Pvt.
