50 years ago, March 2, 1972Tonkawans Are In Washington For Three DaysMr. and Mrs. Don Jeans of Tonkawa and Mr. and Mrs. Dan Godbehere of Blackwell are among the more than 150 Oklahoma Farm Bureau farmers and ranchers who flew from Oklahoma City today for a three-day legislative tour of Washington, D.C.They are planning personal meeting with the state’s congressional delegates, and a tour of the nation’s capitol and a visit to USDA facilities.Topics expected to be discussed with lawmakers include national marketing and bargaining legislation, the Occupational Safety and Health Act and recreational use of the farmland.The entourage left Oklahoma City at 8:00 a.m. today and a 2:30 session was scheduled with the American Farm Bureau’s staff in Washington.Tuesday activities feature a breakfast with the Oklahoma lawmakers in the Rayburn House Office Building and a visit to committee hearings and a session of Congress.James Smith, a Chickasha native and national administrator, Farmers Home Administration, will join the group for breakfast and talk briefly on FHA activities.Afternoon agenda includes the tour of the United States Department of Agriculture’s extensive offices and a session with Phil Campbell, Under Secretary of Agriculture.Before returning to Oklahoma City on Wednesday, March 1, the group of agri-businessmen will tour the White House, Ford’s Theatre, Lincoln’s Memorial and Arlington National Cemetery.20 Acts Are Selected For Hamateur FinalsTurnout Saturday night for the first performance of the 18th annual Hamateur Revue was good, officials said today. While it was not quite up to the sellout on opening night last year, just a few seats were vacant as the top 10 acts in open and junior divisions were selected to compete in the finals on March 11.Three junior division acts will represent Tonkawa in the finals. Sondra Gayle Ross, Ronda Allan and Pam and Patti Davis were selected by the judges to compete in the final. Sondra presented a twirling routine, Rhonda, a song and dance and the Davis twins, a song and dance.
