50 years ago, February 24, 1972Tonkawa High School OfficialsAnnounced today that Nancy Knight and Jeanne Steichen have been named co-valedictorians, and Tony Fath, salutatorian of the 1972 graduating class.Nancy, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Knight, 107 South Jenkins, and Jeanne, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bob Steichen, 310 South First, each have a 4 point grade average for their four years in high school. Tony, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Fath, Northeast of the city, has a 3.92 average.Mike Hise Will Make Spring Tour With SWSC BandMike Hise, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Hise of Tonkawa, is a member of the Southwestern State College Symphonic Band which will begin a Spring Tour on Feb. 28.The band will appear Monday, Feb. 28 in Enid and Garber, Wednesday, March 1 in Mangum, Altus and Lawton, and March 2 in Marlow and El Reno.Varied selections will be featured in the program on the tour.Under the direction of Dr. James W. Jurrens, SWSC music department chairman and music instructor Terry Segress, the Symphonic Band was recently chosen to make a record for the Carl Fischer Publishing Co. of New York. The record of new publications will be distributed nationwide.The band’s home concert will be presented Sunday, March 5, in the Memorial Student Center Ballroom on the Weatherford campus at 3 p.m.The public invited to all of the concerts.Donna Strange Is Chosen Delegate For OU MeetingMiss Donna Strange, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Strange, 105 South Barnes, was chosen to represent the University of Oklahoma school of Dental Hygiene at OU’s 13th annual Model United Nations, held recently at Norman. Miss Strange was named to represent the Swedish delegation. Over 113 countries were represented in the general assembly.Schools attending the event were the University of Kansas, Panhandle State College, East Central State College, OU, Lawton Eisenhower high school and Norman high school. Highlighting the weekend was an address to the students by Jacob Barmore, minister to the Permanent Mission of Israel to the United Nations.Xi Alpha Pi Chapter Has Monday Night MeetA meeting of the Xi Alpha Pi chapter of Beta Sigma Phi was held Monday evening in the home of Mrs. Elmer Thomas.Eleven members were present, Mrs. Oscar Merrell, president, conducted the business meeting.
