Two Honor Students Named by Principal
The two honor students of the class of 1954 at Tonkawa high school were announced today by Principal Morris Robison.
Class valedictorian is Elgin Edwards, son of Mr. and Mrs. F. C.
Edwards, rural Tonkawa, and salutatorian is Mary King, daughter of Rev. and Mrs. W. R. King, 202 West Grand.
Edwards had straight “A” grades for all four years at the high school, freshman through senior work. Miss King had two “B’s” and the remainder “A’s” from grades nine through 12, Robison said.
Kay Road Fund Probe Pushed
A representative of the Oklahoma Public Expenditures Council and a Tulsa newspaper reporter are investigating further into claims on Kay county fund purchases.
Jim R. Williams, assistant director of the expenditures council, and Joe Howell, Tulsa Tribune reporter, met with commissioners
Dale Fuller, Ralph Stewart and Roy Bain Wednesday.
Commissioners previously had claimed a story in the Tribune alleging Kay county road fund purchases showed “waste” on the part of commissioners was incomplete and Incorrect.
“This is the first time a board of commissioners has disputed us,” Williams said. “If a mistake has been made, let’s correct it,”
Howell added.
The story appeared as one in a series appearing in the Tulsa paper which tend to show wasteful purchases on the part of county commissioners in Oklahoma.
Easterling Takes Reserve Training
It’s Lt. Commander V. R. Easterling now instead of Northern
Oklahoma Junior college President V. R. Easterling.
The NOJC president left Sunday for Norfolk, Va. where he is undergoing two weeks of training as a member of the naval reserve. Easterling has been a member of the reserve since his discharge from the Navy after World War II. He will return to NOJC about May 10.
Harris Named To Head Lions
Jack Harris was elected president of the Lions club for 1954-55 at the annual officers election meeting today in Hotel Tonkawa. He succeeds Francis Langdon.
Dennis Impson was elected first vice-president; T. J. Allen, second vice, and Ed A. Reinhardt, third vice, Olin Walcher was re-elected secretary, Bill Marsh was chosen Lion tamer; Bill
Parnell,tail twister, and Gene Mills and K. A. Samar were elected to the board of directors. C. W. Pardew and Bob Brookhart are holdover directors.
Harris served as first vice-president of the club during the past year.
