What is it about a small town parade that warms our hearts with pride?
Even on a hot sticky day in July we look forward to celebrating Independence Day. We line up with flags waving and and cheer loudly for freedom. During our Christmas parade and annual lighting of our downtown Christmas tree, I love to see familiar smiling faces holding hot cocoa in anticipation of seeing Santa’s float. The hand crafted floats that represent our Schools, Businesses, Veterans, Tribe and our Farming Communities are just a few reasons we beam with pride and love to line the streets in appreciation. I am thankful for this tradition and hope it continues for many years to come.
The McCarter Museum has many photos that prove our parades have been enjoyed for decades. Be sure to head over to the Tonkawa Historical Society Facebook page to see some of those photos!
