Presentation on Native crafts at Marland’s Grand Home Saturday

In honor of Native American History Month this November, the Marland Grand Home will present a Listen and Learn series presentation entitled “We Rock, Tolls and Trade of the American Indian”. The presentation will take place on Saturday, November 9 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. Guest speaker and local attorney, Gary Bracken, has expertise in tribal artifacts and is a collector himself. Bracken will speak to the anthropology of man, his history and time-line through the ages. In order to survive man had to adapt and invent.

Northern hosts FAFSA completion events

Northern Oklahoma College’s Financial Aid Department is making it easier to complete financial aid forms for college. NOC’s Kelly Jordan has visited 10 area high schools to assist students and families with the process by hosting a FAFSA completion event.

Jordan, who has been with NOC 12 years, said the process can be overwhelming.

“Students and parents think the process is harder than it is,” she said. “The most important thing is to file the form by the deadlines. A financial aid professional at any school can then help make any changes.”

NOC Woodworking class begins

Northern Oklahoma College’s “Woodworking Class,” a community enrichment course, begins Nov. 7 on the NOC campus.

Instructor Rick Allan said classes will begin Thursday, Nov. 7 and continue on Tuesdays and Thursdays through Dec. 12. Participants will meet in the woodshop located in the Creative Arts Building on the Tonkawa campus from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m.

The class offers community members and NOC students a great opportunity to build that special project they always wanted but didn’t have the space or equipment needed to get it done.

Northern offers glass fusing class

Creating luminous pendants, ornaments, tiles, bowls, night-lights and much more is the focus of Glass Fusing, a popular community enrichment class offered by Audrey Schmitz at Northern Oklahoma College.

Glass Fusing will meet on Thursday and Tuesday for four sessions in November in Creative Arts Building 110 from 6 p.m. - 9 p.m. Dates are Thursdays, Nov 7 and Nov. 21 and Tuesdays, Nov. 12 and Nov. 19. No prior experience is required.

The class fee is $35, which does not include the cost of the glass.
